Crisp bread with margarine or spread Margarine and Spreads Association

What are Margarine and Spreads?

'Spreads' is the broad term for non-butter, spreadable fats, which can be used on bread, in cooking or to improve the taste and texture of foods, such as jacket potatoes.

There is a huge range of spreads on sale in the UK today, offering a range of different qualities, taste and health benefits.

All spreads are lower in total fat and saturated fat content than butter, as denoted in the legislation which outlines the definition of a spread - see http://www.imace.org/legislation/eu-legis.htm.
