What is Fat?
What is the difference between a fat and an oil?
Fats and oils are fundamentally the same: both are 'fats'. Although chemically similar, a fat is solid or semi-solid at 'room' temperature, while an oil remains liquid. Some oils, such as palm oil and coconut oil, are liquids in the hot countries where they are produced and semi-solid in the British climate. Oils and fats vary in both their appearance and their qualities, due to differences in the types and proportions of the various fatty acids present.
