About MSA
The association performs a variety of functions in its role as the mouthpiece of the margarine and spreads industry. One of the essential roles that the association performs for its members is to monitor and to help shape the development of UK, European and International legislation. This is to ensure the best choice available for the public, the security of the industry and to maintain the best possible operating environment. The association is also actively involved in an ongoing communications programme to both promote the activities of the association and to provide valuable information.
The association is a member of the European and International Federations, International Margarine Association of the Countries of Europe (IMACE) and International Federation of Margarine Associations (IFMA). Through these organisations, the MSA can also influence developments outside the UK. The UK spreads and butter market totals approximately 370,000 tonnes of product a year and is currently valued at around £900 million, of which margarine and spreads make up more than 50%.
